Industry Lecture IV
The Savage of Animation
This animation festival was honored to invite the producer Wu Chih-Cheng of Aries Creative to share the special lecture "The Savage of Animation.” The producer mainly analyzed two aspects, namely "The experience of a medium-sized animation company from scratch" and "The animation ecology observed from a medium-sized animation company.” Wu Chih-Cheng started with "Aries Creative", telling the story of the company's development from a small company with less than 10 people in 2014 to the present, as well as the bidding price, the length of each film, and the balance between commercial and original. He also shared many videos produced by Aries Creative, including early commercial animations, original animations REALIGN, and science popularization animation OMI SKY. Wu Chih-Cheng also mentioned in the lecture that "apart from luck, you still need to know what the market is like." He revealed the animation industry market in different countries, analyzed the talent chain and marketability from the error tolerance rate, and compared the budget concept of movies in other countries and Taiwan. At the end of the lecture, the speaker shared the perspective of "survivorship bias,”suggesting that everyone should observe "defects" and avoid following the footsteps of other people's failure experiences.
In the Q&A session, a spectator asked when the company had just started, the funds were limited, and there was the need for survival issues to consider.Would it be a better choice to begin personal creation many years after the company was started? Wu Chih-Cheng responded that this would vary depending on the background factors, but it is important to be clear about your limits and to establish what you want to do. After experience and new skills reach the second stage, although everyone has different starting points for starting a business, as long as you are ready, you can start. Another spectator wanted to know what advice the producer could offer to students in Taiwan who want to do animation, and how to maintain their enthusiasm for doing original animation after experiencing setbacks and difficulties. Wu Chih-Cheng said that the answer might differ for each age and status, and that at some point in life, you will do what you want and what is most important. He now believes that by doing what he should do, achieving opportunities and fulfilling his sense of mission, and gradually finding things that are not done for the public's attention, he will want to continue. Through the special lecture "The Savage of Animation,” producer Wu Chih-Cheng shared many secrets about the Taiwanese animation industry and the company's growth process, and also helped the audience to better understand the current situation of the animation industry in the past decade.
