"The Island of Us"

On an island floating amidst the nimbus and mist, the elf that grows sprouts when exposed to sunlight awakens from their slumber, and explores on different islands. After witnessing all shapes and colors of life, the elf started to accept its current state.


This film used wool felt as the material for making characters and its texture made the overall artistic style smoother and bountiful. The designs of the creatures inside the film all have details that would amaze people and the director also set up complete settings for the life of these lifeforms.

 

 

 

"Compound Eye of Tropical"

"Compound Eye of Tropical" used its unique art style and suspenseful storytelling to make the audience feel as if they were participating in a ritual. This film used its scene’s atmosphere and the performance of the characters to create a religious feeling, showing the director's reflections regarding life.


This film cleverly combined all manners of materials to create the textures of different objects and environments. The character designs are exquisite, merging different elements to create a unique style.

 

 

 

“Little Hilly”

"Little Hilly" starts with the perspective of the protagonist, Hilly Huang. Using the perspective of a child to witness the coldness and gaps of modern society, and also shows the misery of not being able to fulfill even the simplest wish. The arguments and conflicts between parents, the exclusion from classmates, and even the convenience store’s clerk are suspicious of the child being a thief. All kinds of misfortune happening to a defenseless child towards the outside world made it seem even heavier and despairing.


The puppets in this film have distinct images and present the characteristics of the characters simply and interestingly. For example, the two personas of the protagonist, Hilly Huang, showed a huge difference by merely using different materials when making the puppets.

 

 

 

"Anthropocene"

"Anthropocene" used humans under different environments and periods to express the complexity of humanity and reflects various topics such as social injustice and environmental pollution.


The film combined puppet animation with stationary photo shooting, showing the freedom of the methods used in stop-animation. The film featured almost one hundred puppets, successfully expressing the diversity of humans in the film.
