Taiwan Industry Lecture__
Date & Time: 10/31 (FRI) 13:30~15:10
Location: Literary Arts Ecology Hall K301
Keynote Speaker: Jie Liou
Jie Liou is a visual director and new media artist, and the founder of FPA (Floating Point Art). His work spans across visual concept design and motion graphics, continuously exploring new ways to merge sound and image through audiovisual expression. His creative practice often reflects on the philosophical and symbolic dimensions embedded within moving images.
Founded by Jie Liou in 2022, FPA builds on a foundation of 3D visual design and motion graphics, expanding into creative direction, sound art, and interdisciplinary collaborations that explore new languages of digital storytelling. We served as motion design lead for the 35th Golden Melody Awards, and have worked with brands including YSL, Porsche, BMW, Gogoro, ASUS, and MSI. Our work also spans landmark projects such as motion design for the Taiwan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, the sustainability-themed film "A Trail to Zero" for Giant Group, and the immersive light art installation "Light UP" at Four Four South Village.
In 2024, we launched SYNZR, a platform focused on new media art and audiovisual performance, emphasizing artistic experimentation and technological integration. Co-founded with artist Ping Sheng Wu, SYNZR was selected for the Arts NOVA program at the National Taichung Theater, where it premiered its first work, "The Boundary of Sense", presenting an immersive audiovisual experience that explores spatial perception through light and sound.

This year's KuanDu International Animation Festival invited Jie Liou, an alumnus of the Animation Department of Taipei National University of the Arts and founder of Floating Point Art (FPA), to share his journey from independent creator to new media director over the past decade. Jie Liou is currently a video director and new media installation artist, whose works span visual design, motion graphics, and immersive experiences. His company, FPA, has collaborated with brands such as YSL, Porsche, BMW, Gogoro, and ASUS, and has also participated in motion visual coordination for the 35th Golden Melody Awards and in the production of the TECH WORLD Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. In recent years, FPA has launched the brand SYNZR, which focuses on audio-visual art performances and sensory arts. In 2024, FPA received support from the National Taichung Theater's "NTT Emerging Artists Project" to launch the immersive performance "The Boundary of Sense."
During the lecture, he showcased his graduation project from TNUA, along with several of his notable works, including the Jeremy Lin sneaker advertisement, a promotional video for a jacket described as "lighter than a feather," and the main visual design for the Golden Melody Awards. He shared the production process, from hand-drawn storyboards to selecting key shots for individual rendering and style testing, all the way to the final animation, emphasizing creativity and experimentation at every step. When discussing the NFT trend, he also reflected on the balance between art and commerce, emphasizing that "how a work is infused with value is the translation between art and the market."
Director Liou also introduced the theater creation project "The Boundary of Sense," which explores immersive experiences and sensory exploration, allowing the audience to journey through different sensory worlds in 50 minutes. Finally, he summarized the future trends of moving images—real-time interaction, cross-media integration, and the use of AI as a creative tool—and reminded creators: "The key is to find your own language and speak in the way you want."
During the Q&A session, when asked how he manages to complete tasks quickly, he shared that he uses Notion to keep track of his to-do list. If he can’t finish something right away, it's okay—he simply makes it up later. When it comes to setbacks, he candidly admitted, "I think about giving up every day, but being underestimated is an inevitable part of being an artist." As for finding like-minded partners, he suggested releasing more work and attending more offline gatherings, "Let others see you, and collaboration opportunities will naturally arise."
