Synopsis

The film "ChaO" depicts a future city where humans and mermaids coexist, where the line between land and sea was no longer exist. Following a fortuitous encounter, ordinary office worker Stephan is publicly proposed to by Chao, a mermaid princess from the ocean kingdom. This unexpected fateful encounter not only turns Stephan's life upside down but also uncovers a fascinating past hidden deep within the ocean tides and memories. Can Chao truly become a human's wife? And is Stephan prepared for the unknowns and changes this love brings?




Director’s Portrait :

A veteran animator currently at Tokyo-based Studio4°C, he previously co-directed Batman: Gotham Knight and contributed animation to Psycho-Pass: The Movie — atmospheric and moody features that worked with shadows and darkness. Aoki has swum against that tide for his latest feature, the Annecy-premiered ChaO, which ushers in bright colors and kinetic visuals
