Director’s Portrait : Antoine Lanciaux

A multifaceted artist with a distinctive sensibility, Antoine Lanciaux has made his mark in the world of animation through a body of work that blends poetry, humor, and emotional depth. Trained as a screenwriter, storyboard artist, and animator, he has collaborated on numerous acclaimed films and series at the French animation studio Folimage, where he developed a narrative voice that is both tender and subtly whimsical.
As a director, Lanciaux has crafted a personal universe that resonates with audiences of all ages. His filmography includes nine animated works, notably Boniface’s Summer, Pougne’s Autumn, and Snow (co-directed with Sophie Roze), which have toured international festivals and charmed viewers with their delicate balance of fantasy and humanity.
What distinguishes Lanciaux’s work is his talent for approaching complex themes—such as identity, memory, and family bonds—with nuance and originality. His storytelling often unfolds like a modern fable, where imagination becomes a lens through which to explore very real emotions.
In his current project, Songbirds’ Secret, co-written with Pierre-Luc Granjon, Lanciaux deepens his exploration of intergenerational relationships and the weight of legacy, weaving an intimate story with universal resonance. Once again, he surrounds himself with trusted collaborators, including Granjon, Roze, and Samuel Ribeyron, forming a creative circle driven by shared values and a commitment to visual storytelling.
Antoine Lanciaux stands out as a director who dares to treat children’s animation with both artistic ambition and emotional sincerity, crafting films that linger in the heart long after the credits roll.
