Department of Animation, Taipei National University of the Arts

The Department of Animation at Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) was established in 2011 in Kuandu, a scenic area surrounded by mountains and rivers, where it has since planted the seeds of animation education.

As one of the few institutions in Taiwan dedicated to animation as its core discipline, the department aims to cultivate professionals in the cultural and creative industries, providing fertile ground for the development of the digital arts environment.

Its curriculum integrates animation aesthetics, technical training, and narrative direction, fostering graduates with creativity, technical competence, and intellectual depth. In the short term, the department focuses on teaching professional skills in production planning, digital animation creation, and experimental animation practice, nurturing the next generation of outstanding talent.

In the long term, it seeks to contribute to the advancement of Taiwan’s animation, film, and media industries.

As the department continues to grow, the Kuandu International Animation Festival has now entered its 16th edition. Its educational philosophy emphasizes not only professional skill development, but also the cultivation of collaborative attitudes through industry–academia partnerships.

Animation, as a discipline, is the fusion of time and space. This belief encourages students to learn, exchange ideas, and share creative joy, weaving together diverse and imaginative works.
