About the Awards

Through its open call for submissions, The Kuandu International Animation Festival provides a platform for animation creators to showcase their works and promote their artistic vision. Each year, the festival not only brings fresh energy to the animation industry, but also encourages exchange between domestic and international participants. It further offers Taiwanese animation creators opportunities to participate in international competitions and screenings, while selected and award-winning works are presented on a global stage.

The Kuandu Animation Awards (KuanDog Prize) is a key highlight of the festival, carefully curated by the organizers. The awards include six categories: Best Animation Award, Best Student Animation Award, Taiwan Special Award, Taiwan Student Award, Best Taiwanese Original Music Award, and Jury Prize. In addition to providing a platform for outstanding domestic and international works and fostering industry–academia exchange during the festival period, the international competition aims to promote the Kuandu International Animation Festival to a global audience. It seeks to connect animation artists and filmmakers worldwide with the animation program at Taipei National University of the Arts, and to showcase outstanding works within the festival program.

The Kuandu International Animation Festival has become one of the most influential animation festivals in Taiwan. As part of the Kuandu Arts Festival at TNUA, it also plays an important role in promoting animation as an art form, while engaging in dialogue and collaboration with other artistic disciplines.

In the past year, the Kuandu Animation Awards received more than 2,270 submissions from 101 countries worldwide. Among them, 83 films were selected for competition and 28 works were chosen for the non-competitive showcase. This growing diversity reflects the continuous development of the festival and highlights the rising visibility of Taiwanese animation on the international stage.
