Carolina Lopez Caballero
Carolina López Caballero Curator and Director of Animac LLeida, the International Animation Festival of Catalonia, a lively reference event in Europe with screenings, workshops and conferences. She is also encharged of Xcèntric, the cinema of CCCB (Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona), devoted to build a apreciation on experimental film though screenings, educational activities and writtings. Carolina is a graduate of the University of Barcelona in Fine Arts and also studied animation in England where she graduated at West Surrey College of Art and Design. In 1993 created Anima't - the animation section of the Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia and directed it for 10 years. After working as a free-lance animator in Barcelona, moved to Miami to work for MTV an Locomotion. She has programmed film content for MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona) and Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, among many other museums, art centers and festivals. In recent years she has curated a large exhibition entitled ‘Metamorphosis, the Fantastic Visions of Starewitch, Švankmajer and the Quay Brothers’ produced by CCCB (Barcelona) and La Casa Encendida (Madrid) and the film series ‘From Doodles to Pixels. Over a Hundred Years of Spanish Animation’ (also the DVD-book edition) screened at the Annecy Festival (France) and MoMA (NY-USA), among other venues worldwide. She is the editor of the book on experimental film ’45 filsm agaist the Grain’ and hes written for culture & film publicationsand. At present is working on a new publication with interviews to experimental film directors. It is the first time that ‘From Doodles to Pixels, Over A Hundred Years of Spanish Animation’ will be shown in Asia. Carolina lópez will attend KDIAF to introduce the film series and share with the students and the festival audience his professional experience and knowledge on Spanish animation.
